Parks

The New Brunswick Park’s system features 272 beautiful acres of parks, playgrounds, passive areas, athletic fields, facilities, lawns, and gardens. In 1999 two of our parks were selected for National Awards. The restoration of Boyd Park and the new development of Alice Jennings Archibald Park received national recognition! Many of our parks can be reserved free of charge for any resident or visitor in the City of New Brunswick. To speak directly with the Division of Parks office please call (732) 745-5112. Buccleuch Park

This park located between the Raritan River and Easton Avenue features 78 acres of rolling terrain.

Buccleuch Park, pronounced (Bucc-lew is home to the Buccleuch Mansion, a former Colonial Estate. The mansion recently underwent a historical restoration and is open for tours on Sunday’s 2-4pm from June-Oct.

Buccleuch Park also features many athletic fields for baseball, softball, tennis, soccer, cricket, or basketball and a 1.5 mile cross country /fitness trail. Buccleuch Park also has a playground, rock garden, flower garden, gazebo, and picnic pavilion. During the winter months and the parks department offers sledding and ice skating (weather permitting).

Alice Jennings Archibald Park

Opened in 1998, Alice Jennings Archibald Park is located off Van Dyke Avenue in the City’s 4th Ward and features 10.5 acres of athletic facilities for baseball, softball, soccer, football, tennis, basketball, and handball. Courts and fields are lighted for night time play. This park also includes a playground and picnic pavilion.

In 1999 City Engineer Thomas Weingartner was recognized by the New Jersey Association of Municipal Engineers for the outstanding work done to design this park.

Boyd Park

This 20 acre award winning park was reopened in 1999 as part of an $11 million redevelopment effort of New Brunswick’s river-front. Boyd Park now offers an historical view of the Raritan River as well as New Brunswick’s skyline. This park is home to many festivals and special events including the Raritan River Festival, Hispanic Festival, and the City’s 4th of July Celebration.

The park also features a 3/4 long mile tow path with lights as well an historical swing bridge, canal, and locks. Extensive historical signage has been installed to help visitors learn about the rich history of the Raritan River and the City of New Brunswick.

Memorial Stadium

Recognized by the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers as the Municipal Project of the year in 2001, this 15 acre park is located adjacent to New Brunswick High School and is home to many varsity, jr varsity, adult, and youth sporting events. This facility has a football/soccer stadium that seats 5,000 people, a practice football/soccer field, baseball field, softball field, tennis courts, locker rooms, and concession stands.

The facility is the home of many teams including New Brunswick High School, St. Peters High School, the Hub City Brigade and Power Premier soccer clubs, the Marauders Semi pro football, the New Brunswick Raiders and Pop Warner Football. New Brunswick Recreation’s Men’s Open League Baseball, Men’s and Women’s Softball and youth sports programs also call Memorial Stadium home.

In September of 2000 Memorial Stadium was the host of a statewide rugby tournament featuring the Garryowen Rugby Club from Limerick, Ireland.

Youth Sports Complex

This 15 acre complex will host all youth little league baseball and softball games as well as all youth soccer games. The facility will be a state of the art facility for youth athletic training complete with scoreboards, batting cages, kick walls, lights, dugouts, bullpens, concession stands, meeting rooms, and more.

Located on Joyce Kilmer Avenue, the park will have many wonderful amenities including picnic pavilions and beautiful landscaping which will make this park a treat for New Brunswick families!
