Police Advise City Residents to be Wary of Phone Scam

The New Brunswick Police Department has recently received numerous complaints from residents and business owners, reporting “Phone Scams” from alleged PSE&G bill collectors.

The caller claims to be a representative of PSE&G and reports that the individual’s utility bill is overdue and if payment is not made immediately, the power would be turned off.  The caller suggests payment be made through a pre-paid debit card or money order.

The New Brunswick Police Department wants to advise everyone that PSE&G does not solicit bill payments over the phone. If anyone receives such a call they should confirm with PSE&G the status of their account and report any fraudulent activity to the police department.
