Underground water main valves will be turned and fire hydrants will be flushed on several City streets on Thursday, June 28. This is part of maintenance procedures for our water distribution system, performed by New Brunswick Water Utility staff.
Valves will be turned and some fire hydrants flushed between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the neighborhoods bordered by the following areas:
- Streets including and bordered by Hamilton Street, Louis Street and Somerset Street
- Streets including and bordered by Easton Avenue, Hamilton Street, Seminary Place, College Avenue and Mine Street
During these maintenance procedures, residents may experience low pressure or water discoloration, caused by the dislodging of iron deposits in water mains through flushing.
Water remains safe for use, but the New Brunswick Water Utility advises against running hot water or washing laundry while discoloration is present, as iron deposits may build up in hot water heaters or stain laundry.
