Kids with New Brunswick Tomorrow’s Bobadilla Summer Soccer Academy volunteered their time on July 25 to help keep New Brunswick clean and green by removing approximately 265 pounds of litter from the neighborhood next to New Brunswick High School.

The team of campers, joined by Mayor Jim Cahill, spent the morning engaging in a community service project in the neighborhood in which they attend the weekday camp.

New Brunswick DPW staff provided gloves, bags, safety vests and tools and New Brunswick Police Department officers kept the streets safe while the team picked up trash and recycling from lawns, streets and curbs. They also dropped litter reduction cards at residences to provide information on more ways to limit litter.

The Bobadilla Summer Soccer Academy is a free summer program coordinated by New Brunswick Police Department Capt. Mike Bobadilla and New Brunswick Tomorrow. The program meets for five days a week for one summer month at New Brunswick High School, where local kids ages 6-15 play soccer, learn about healthy living and community involvement and read.

The Bobadilla Summer Soccer Academy has conducted several local litter cleanups in partnership with the City of New Brunswick over the years, furthering our shared commitment to community service.
