The City of New Brunswick is pleased to announce the appointment of longtime employee Melanie Ford to the position of Director of Social Services.
Ms. Ford, a 21-year-employee of the City of New Brunswick, began working for the City of New Brunswick in 1997 in the Department of Administration. She was promoted to the role of Senior Resource Center Director in 2003, a position in which she has been well-known and admired among the many residents she has served.
She replaces Dave Blevins, who served as Director of Social Services from 2011 to 2017. He retired at the end of 2017 following a career with the City of New Brunswick that spanned 32 years.
“Melanie has done an outstanding job as the Director of our City’s Senior Resource Center and her promotion to this position is certainly well-deserved,” said Mayor Jim Cahill. “Her skilled leadership and commitment to serving our residents will continue the progress made by our Social Services Department and its ability to grow in service to our community. Melanie will be a valued asset and welcome member of the leadership team.”
Ms. Ford begins her assignment as Director of Social Services on Monday, February 26. Her appointment to the position was approved by New Brunswick City Council on Wednesday, February 21.
“I am truly honored and humbled to serve,” she said. “To be able to extend what I do for the City of New Brunswick is a blessing.”
