Library Receives National Grant to Support Local ESL Programs

The New Brunswick Free Public Library has received a national award to expand programs that teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to beginner-level language learners in the New Brunswick community.

The American Library Association (ALA) and Dollar General Literacy Foundation has named the library as one of 20 recipients of American Dream Literacy Initiative grants, $10,000 awards to expand services for adult English language learners or adults in need of basic education and workforce development.

The New Brunswick Free Public Library’s current ESL programs for adult learners include ESL conversation groups, Conversation Cafes and ESL/Citizenship Classes.

A teen ESL Conversation Cafe is also available for English speakers of all levels in grades 7-12.
