Spring has sprung, and our volunteer Clean City Block Captains are ready to help clean litter throughout our City neighborhoods!
Block Captains are responsible for conducting mini clean-ups on their block throughout the year. They are also tasked with educating their neighbors about the significance of keeping the neighborhood clean. This grassroots effort keeps litter off the streets and help to build community. All residents are encouraged to join in this effort.
Block Captains take it upon themselves to make a positive impact on the City. They do M.O.R.E.:
Organize mini clean-ups
Recruit block captains and Report issues
Block Captains are provided with bags, gloves and bilingual educational materials, along with technical support from the City of New Brunswick to aid in the clean-up process.
Four of our Clean City Block Captains were recently recognized for the work they put in to help keep our City clean and green!
- Rose Chodkiewicz, a longtime Block Captain, was recognized with an award for collecting the highest amount of litter for the 2017 year, totaling 47 bags.
- Brother Patrick Reily received an award for cleaning 45 bags worth of litter from our streets, the second highest amount of litter cleaned by a volunteer in the program.
