Halloween and Day of the Dead/Dia De Los Muertos are quickly approaching and community spots around town have planned for fun and family-friendly events that are open to all.
Holy Family Parish has announced a healthy-themed Halloween event from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 27 in the Sacred Heart Church hall, located at 56 Throop Avenue. Health screenings, activities for children, community information and healthy snacks will be offered.
On Sunday, October 29, from 1-3 p.m. the New Brunswick Free Public Library, 60 Livingston Avenue, will hold its annual Day of the Dead/Dia De Los Muertos celebration in conjunction with Lazos America Unida and the Rutgers Center for Latino Arts and Culture.
This free event will feature sugar skull decorating, face painting, altar building, traditional music and dance and refreshments. All are invited to attend.
Also on Sunday, The Yard at College Avenue will host “Family Halloween Movie Night,” featuring a free screening of the film “Hocus Pocus” on the outdoor big screen.
The film begins at 4 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to sit on.
On Halloween day, Tuesday, October 31, Unity Square invites New Brunswick families to its Trunk or Treat event from 5-7 p.m. in the parking lot of Lord Stirling Community School, 101 Redmond Street.
Kids are invited to wear their costumes and bring their treat bags to trick or treat out of the trunks of community members’ cars. Trunk or Treat is free to attend and open to all.
PRAB will also have Halloween trick or treating, starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday! Families are invited to stop by PRAB’s Harmony Family Success Center for treats as long as supplies last. The Center is located at 255 Livingston Avenue.
