The building of a brand-new park on Welton Street will see a new development this week with the opening of proposals for the construction of the park. The opening is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12 in Council Chambers of City Hall, 78 Bayard Street.
Anyone who wishes to attend is welcome to do so.
This new neighborhood park will be located near the corner of Drift Street. Three abandoned houses were demolished to make way for the park, the amenities of which are planned to include:
- Tables and seating
- Playground fixtures
- Garden and rain garden areas
- New crosswalks
The plan for this park was complimented by community feedback and suggestions that were collected during two public meetings that took place at the end of last year.
Completion of Welton Street Park is anticipated for summer of 2019.
The new Welton Street Park is part of an extensive plan to revitalize and renew the City parks system. Other plans in the works include a redesign of Feaster Park and Pittman Park, a new park on Neilson Street, new fitness courts, new playgrounds, new and redone playing fields and more.
