Mayor’s Wellness Campaign Launches in New Brunswick!

City residents are invited to take advantage of a slew of free health and wellness activities for participants of all ages through the new Mayor’s Wellness Campaign in the City of New Brunswick.

The campaign, coordinated by the City of New Brunswick and Robert Wood Johnson Fitness and Wellness Center, in cooperation with a dozen additional community partners, kicks off at noon on Sunday, October 1 with Zumba at The Yard on College Avenue.

The campaign will entail monthly programs and activities aimed to promote health and wellness of mind and body for our residents. Activities such as Zumba, health fairs, health screenings, healthy cooking demos and family activities are all free and open to the public at locations Citywide, including our parks, schools and open spaces.

Community-oriented events, such as Dads Take Your Child to School Day, occurring on the third Friday of each month, and Family Super Hero Workout, occurring every Saturday in October, also aim to promote community building and family togetherness as part of the campaign.

Some other upcoming campaign events include New Brunswick Ciclovia on Sunday, October 8, New Brunswick’s unique event that turns our streets car-free for a fun day of active living; “Turn it Up Tuesday,” featuring group fitness classes and a cooking demonstration, scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month; and ‘Exercise – Where to Start?” a community education forum on exercise and wellness scheduled for Wednesday, October 25.

“New Brunswick is dedicated to the health and wellness of each and every one of its residents,” said Mayor Jim Cahill. “We are excited to announce this new campaign to bring together offerings like physical activity, wellness education and community building in a fun and family-friendly way. The goal of this campaign is to improve the overall well-being of our City, with something for everybody to enjoy.”
