Eight neighborhoods in New Brunswick lit up their grills, set out picnic tables and enjoyed a warm summer night outdoors during the City of New Brunswick’s annual National Night Out celebration.

National Night Out is a community-building event intended to strengthen relationships between neighbors as well as between residents and the local police department. Picnics and barbecues are held throughout the City, each visited by a caravan of police, fire and elected officials as the town joins together to take a united stance against crime.

These celebrations are organized by community and crime watch groups that work with the police department year-round on safety and community issues. National Night Out is a nationally-observed celebration and New Brunswick’s groups throw lively celebrations each year in recognition of this important community initiative.
