NBPD Promotes Five Officers to New Ranks

The leadership team of the New Brunswick Police Department grew yesterday with the promotion of three officers to the rank of Sergeant and two veteran officers to the rank of Lieutenant.

Mayor Jim Cahill administered the oath of office to Lt. Samuel Hillyer, Lt. Richard Herbst, Sgt. Dominick Calogero, Sgt. Thierry Lemmerling and Sgt. John Yurkovic, Jr. on Thursday afternoon at City Hall, surrounded by their friends and family.

Lt. Hillyer is a 23-year veteran of the department, serving in Patrol.

Lt. Herbst is a 21-year veteran of the department, serving in Patrol.

Sgt. Calogero has been with the department since April of 2007 and serves in Patrol.

Sgt. Lemmerling has served with the department since April of 2007 and serves in the department’s Major Crimes Unit.

Sgt Yurkovic has been with the department since January of 2003 and serves in Patrol.
