Paul Robeson Community Theme School for the Arts is progressing through a renovation project and the New Brunswick community and the state gathered on Wednesday to celebrate that progress with a beam signing ceremony!

Paul Robeson students grabbed brightly colored markers and joined Superintendent of Schools Aubrey Johnson, Principal Kelly Mooring, NJ School Development Authority CEO Charles McKenna, Mayor Jim Cahill, City Council member Kevin Egan and members of the New Brunswick Board of Education to write their names on a beam that is being used as part of the new school construction.

The 60,000 square-foot, three-story addition to the school will include a new multi-purpose room, 30 additional classrooms, four small instruction rooms, and two Basic Skills/ESL classrooms.

The 59,400 square-foot existing school also is being renovated. This work includes the introduction of a fire sprinkler system and the renovation/rearrangement of spaces including the school’s food service area, media center, classrooms, nurse’s office, main office and student services suite.

It is anticipated that students will be able to enjoy their new school facilities by September 2018.
