Betsy Garlatti Ends Longtime Career with City Council

New Brunswick City Councilwoman was presented with a plaque at her final meeting on December 29, 2016 in recognition of her 16 years of service to the City of New Brunswick.

New Brunswick City Council member Betsy Garlatti was presented with a plaque at her final meeting on December 29, 2016 in recognition of her more than 12 years of service to the City of New Brunswick.

New Brunswick City Council saluted longtime council member Elizabeth “Betsy” Garlatti on December 29, 2016 during her final meeting on the council after more than 12 years of service to the City of New Brunswick.

Council member Garlatti was sworn in on January 21, 2004. She served four years as council president from 2007-2011. Her current term as a council member ends on December 31, 2016.

She is the daughter of former City of New Brunswick Mayor Patricia Q. Sheehan, who served as a City Commissioner from 1967-1971 and as Mayor from 1971-1974. Council member Garlatti’s father, the late Daniel M. Sheehan, served as a City Commissioner from July 10, 1961 until his death on December 10, 1961.

Suzanne Sicora Ludwig was elected to fill the seat left vacant by the end of council member Garlatti’s term. She will be sworn in at the council’s reorganization meeting on January 4, 2017.
