10th Annual Jimmy D Memorial 5K This Sunday!

On Sunday, Aug. 31, the 10th Annual Jimmy D Memorial 5K will see hundreds of participants race  in New Brunswick one last time in remembrance of a local hero.

New Brunswick Deputy Fire Chief James D’heron died in the line of duty on Sept. 3, 2004 while responding to a fire in the City. Fifteen people were saved as a result of his actions.

Since 2005, friends and family have gathered in New Brunswick for a memorial race in D’heron’s honor. Proceeds from the event benefit the James D’heron Memorial Foundation, which pledges support and resources to burn survivors. Since 2005, more than $100,000 has been raised for this cause.

Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at Memorial Stadium on Joyce Kilmer Avenue, with the start of the race scheduled for 9 a.m.

A kids’ race is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony, barbecue and live music. Activities for children are scheduled to include a moon bounce, face painting, ice cream and cotton candy.
