The New Brunswick Fire Department has a new captain, following the promotion of Darrin Van Demark, a 20-year member of the department, on Tuesday, June 17 at City Hall.
Van Demark joined the New Brunswick Fire Department on Feb. 12, 1994. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on June 22, 2010 and assigned to Engine 1.
His certifications include those of Level 1 Fire Instructor; Incident Management Level II; Drill Ground Instructor and Extrication Instructor.
He has received several awards for his efforts in the line of duty, including The New Jersey Fireman’s Benevolent Association Valor Award, the St. Barnabas Burn Foundation Valor Award, The New Brunswick Fire Department Life Saving Award and the New Brunswick Fire Department Meritorious Service Award.
“Our firefighters are the best in the business, which is why I am honored to announce Captain Van Demark’s promotion,” said Mayor Jim Cahill. “We have an extraordinary team of men and women serving in our fire department, and all of them should be recognized for the hard work they do each and every day.”
Van Demark will be assigned to Engine 2 in his new role as Captain.
