A 2-hour workshop of “5-Keys for Happy, Healthy Family Eating” is
offered to help parents worrying about their children’s eating habits,
including picky eating, over eating, and avoidance of fruits and
vegetables, in the Carl T. Valenti Community Room of New Brunswick Free
Public Library, 60 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick, on Saturday, August
24, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The workshop will focus on teaching parents how to structure family
meals and snacks so that their children develop into happy and healthy
eaters. The “5-Keys” method encourages parents to divide responsibility
during family meals so that they decide what, when, and where food is
served and their children decide whether and how much to eat. It also
provides parents with creative ideas for meals and snacks that will
introduce children to a variety of healthy foods.
The workshop is led by Jessica Yu of Institute for Health, Health Care
Policy and Aging Research of Rutgers University. She has helped numerous
parents learn how to schedule regular family meals that both parents and
children can enjoy. “5-Keys” method was developed by Ellyn Satter, a
nutritionist who has written extensively about family meal planning. To
