Police Department Completes Final Phase of Accreditation Process
Police Director Anthony A. Caputo announced today that the New Brunswick Police Department has completed its final phase of the accreditation process. Earlier in the week the police department was visited by a team of assessors from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) who examined all aspects of the police department. The visit included an inspection of police headquarters, an examination of equipment and personnel, an in depth review of policies and procedures, and an assessment of the managerial and operational functions within the department. At the conclusion of the assessment the team advised Director Caputo that they would be making a recommendation for accreditation to the NJSACOP Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission.
Director Caputo complimented the hard work and dedication his staff contributed towards the completion of this process and praised the efficiency in which it was done. A process which has previously taken departments between 18 and 24 months to complete was achieved by the New Brunswick Police Department in just over 10 months. Caputo added, “That degree of efficiency is a direct reflection of my staff’s commitment to this department and the City we serve”.
The NJSACOP Accreditation is a voluntary process a police department undertakes to demonstrate they provide “a standard of best practices” as defined by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
